SAFER Training Programme (English)

Life Skills Theoretical Background – Forming Healthy Relationships

The third important aspect which will be discussed within the training materials of this module is the topic of healthy relationships. Healthy relationships, according to Antle, Sullivan, Dryden, Karam & Barbee (2011), was considered as a possible educational topic which could prevent relational violence in teenagers. This suggestion is based on the idea that teaching around health relationships incorporates the provision of information relating to both healthy and unhealthy relationship patterns such as communication and conflict resolution skills, general problem solving and dating violence.

According to Adler & Baeder (2007) (see below), an educational program on healthy relationships should begin with exploring key concepts, identifying behaviours and then associating the practices with the previous knowledge.
