Resilience Theoretical Background – Conclusion

Schools, and educators therein, can play an important role in tackling the issue of gender-based violence. Initiatives and practices which are aimed at building student awareness, bolstering student personal competences and creating a supportive schooling climate can strengthen student resilience and reduce gender-based violence.

Resilience is also a key concept in equipping young people with the capacities required to resist stereotyped behaviours and peer pressure, and act bravely towards speaking out against instances of injustice and inequality. By making concerted efforts to use education to bolster resilience via targeted educational practices, educators can also reduce the likelihood of the bystander effect prompting an inertia in young people when confronted by instances of unfair and discriminatory behaviour within society.
