Resilience Theoretical Background – Strengthening Resilience to Reduce Gender-Based Violence

Creating positive environments within educational settings can promote child resilience. Strengthening resilience amongst students can, in turn, help to prevent the emergence of inappropriate and aggressive behavior, whilst also promoting social and emotional functioning and wellbeing in children exposed to violence, bullying or sexual harassment (Hjemdal et al., 2011; Raver et al., 2008). Resilience is influenced by young people’s access to multiple resources while at school (Ungar et al., 2017). Some of these resources and their role in tackling the issue in gender-based violence are described below:
